DIVIDENDS AND TAX

W8-BEN & VDHG

The question is regarding the W8-BEN tax form and a VDHG portfolio. Checking Computershare it doesn't look like I need to complete the form but I'd rather be safe than sorry and ask the pearler community if it's required. I believe that VDHG is domiciled in Australia so even though it has US companies in the ETF I don't need to submit one. is this correct?

Hi Bradley.

With VDHG there is no need to complete a W8-BEN form.

The only reason this is required for funds such as VTS and VEU is because those particular funds are ‘domiciled’ / based overseas and are effectively run by Vanguard in the US. VDHG is based here in Australia, even though it also invests in overseas shares.

Hope that makes sense.
Dave
